The Director of Defense Policy will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing Motorola Solutions' strategic objectives within the defense sector. This role is based in Washington, DC.

Role and Department

Department: Government Affairs. The position focuses on defense policy and related public safety issues within the states and at the federal level, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to align policy with business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of defense policy initiatives, advocating for Motorola Solutions' interests with the DoD, Congress, and other relevant government agencies.
• Monitor, analyze, and interpret defense legislation, regulations, and policy trends, providing timely insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key decision-makers within the DoD, including the Pentagon, as well as members of Congress and their staff on defense-related committees.
• Represent Motorola Solutions in forums such as industry associations, think tanks, and public events to advance the companys defense policy agenda.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with business development, sales, legal, and engineering teams to ensure policy strategies support business objectives and product development.
• Provide expertise on DoD contracting processes and procurement policies, supporting the capture of new business opportunities.
• Engage with DARPA to understand emerging technologies and policy implications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; preferred emphasis in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy or related field.
• Experience working with Congress and a solid understanding of the legislative process.
• In-depth knowledge of DoD operations, budget, and procurement processes.
• Proven ability to work effectively with defense-oriented stakeholders and policy makers.
• Prior experience in the defense industry and direct experience with the Pentagon is a plus.
• Direct experience with or knowledge of DARPA is a plus.
• Experience on Capitol Hill with defense-related committees or in a legislative affairs capacity.
• Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.

Base Salary and Pay Transparency

Target Base Salary Range: $190,000 - $230,000 USD. Pay within this range varies based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

• 8+ years of experience in one of the following: DoD or defense policy review
