Salary: $65,000 - $95,000/year

Electrical Designer   

Purpose:   

As an Electrical Drafter/Designer supporting the Energy Division at Knobelsdorff (KE), you will play a vital role in transforming engineering designs into detailed construction documents. You will coordinate with internal stakeholders and utilize industry-leading software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Autodesk Revit to model equipment, raceways, and layouts in both 2D and 3D. Your expertise will drive the creation of DC string layouts, PV system designs, trench layouts, and schedules for panels and conduits, ensuring that all documentation is precise and ready for execution. 

Working closely with our Pre-Construction and Project teams, you will contribute to design-build projects by reconciling design-intent models with as-built conditions, supporting self-perform and field teams. With projects nationwide, including behind-the-meter, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Community Solar Gardens (CSG), and Distributed Generation (DG) solar energy, your work will directly impact the successful execution of renewable energy solutions. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Verify vendor quotes and provide submittal packages 
  • Participate in customer/client design review meetings and presentations 
  • Assist in leading/managing engineering needs to ensure final product matches the “KE-Way” design 
  • Sizing conduit/cable to serve electrical equipment such as Combiners, Inverters, Switchgear, and Transformers 
  • Interpret equipment specifications and customer requirements to ensure equipment and conduit spacing and connections are properly detailed.
  • Act as a bridge from estimating to operations or Concept to reality 
  • Complete conceptual engineering and/or design for the following:
    • DC Strings and Combiners 
    • Inverter / Racking / Equipment Pad 
    • Communications / Fiber 
    • Medium Voltage Distribution systems such as 
    • MV metering 
    • Reclosers 
    • Overhead / Riser Poles
    • Vacuum Fault Interrupters 
    • Metal Clad MV Switchgear 
    • MV transformers 
    • Various MV Cable Types and terminations 
  • Experience with Special systems such as Networking cabling, DAS, Ground systems, 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with BlueBeam, Revit, AutoCAD, Smartsheets, and Procore 
  • A knowledge of electrical and/or automation construction practices or solar electrical work. 
  • Knowledge of the NEC 
  • Able to effectively communicate with all levels of management, staff, and customers 
  • Effectively communicate using various methods including but not limited to Microsoft Teams, email, text, or phone calls 
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills 
  • Manage project files, drawings, documents & records in our project system 
  • Journeyman or Masters Electricians License, a degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related, or equivalent combination of field experience/education  
  • Excellent time management, and project tasking 
  • Must be self-motivated, and flexible to accommodate project deadlines or changes in KE business strategies 
  • Ability to problem solve and take accountability for decisions on projects.  
  • Possess and maintain a valid driving license 
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check 
  • Ability to have team first mentality 
  • Ability to teach and mentor other members of the group 
  • Open to occasional travel

  • Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, walk, and sit for long periods of time.  
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
