Description Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity. We are seeking a motivated, high energy, self-starter to serve in the role of heavy equipment operator. This position performs skilled work in operating heavy equipment, which will include a grade all excavator, as well as various motor graders, bulldozers, mini excavators, lowboys, front-end loaders, trucks with trailers, pick-up trucks, and other related equipment. The ideal candidate for this position will be reliable, safety oriented, thoughtful about planning and quality control, productive and hardworking.
Duties and Responsibilities - Primary functions of this position include operating hand and power tools, performing routine maintenance and inspections of related equipment, and maintaining road right-of-ways.
- Installing and repairing drainage pipes, catch basin forming, pouring and finishing concrete.
- Placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete.
- Ability to level screed, bull/hand float and rebar tying.
- Setting concrete forms for curb, driveways, and sidewalks.
- Help with final grade adjustments.
- May work with a crew or independently.
Education, Experience, Licensing - Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and three years of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
- Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and acceptable driving record is required.
- This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.
Supplemental Information - Work days and hours are Tuesday - Friday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ability to work flexible hours under emergency situations.
- Must be able stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods of time and work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Must be able to form, measure, calculate, pour, and trowel concrete.
- Knowledge and ability to build catch basins and shoot grades with a laser and lay pipe.
- Must possess knowledge of traffic regulations and construction equipment safety, and have the ability to set up a safe work zone and learn specialized maintenance skills.
- Must possess good communication skills, perform routine tasks by following oral instructions, and complete various forms and paperwork.
- Must be able to read, write, and hear within a normal range.
- Must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner.
- Must be able to work flexible hours under emergency situations.
