The Juneau Law Library of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is accepting applications for a Library Assistant 3 (salary range 12). The successful applicant will manage the law library and oversee all public and technical services tasks, under the supervision of librarians in Anchorage. Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for an advance step placement. The Position You will perform technical services such as receiving new materials and serial updates in the integrated library. You will create, maintain, and remove copy and item records, physically processes materials for the shelf, update and file loose-leaf and supplementary materials, shelve library materials, and maintain shelf arrangement. You will verify the accuracy of invoices and packing slips then scan and submit them for payment approval. You will monitor collection to keep materials up to date, claim missing or delinquent materials from vendors, request cataloging for new acquisitions, work with law librarians to manage replacements, withdrawals, and acquisitions, and resolve problems with records, materials, and processes. You will be responsible for providing reference assistance to judges, law clerks, and other court employees; attorneys and members of the legal community; and pro se litigants and members of the general public. You will provide instruction in the use of print and electronic library materials, including case law digests, statutory indexes and tables, citators, the library catalog, legal databases, e-books, and court and library websites. You will also assist users researching the history of legislation, regulations, court rules, and local government codes. Other duties may include processing and accepting interlibrary loan requests. You will work cooperatively with other libraries and government agencies, and assist patrons with library equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, and microform readers. This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Juneau public and Supreme Court law libraries. It involves implementing and enforcing library policies and procedures, setting and meeting goals, and preparing monthly reports, including statistics. The role includes maintaining and servicing library equipment, handling minor repairs such as paper refills, jam clearing, and toner replacement, and overseeing the distribution of materials to court staff in Juneau. It also involves procuring supplies, and working independently under the direction of professional staff based in Anchorage. Regular participation in staff meetings via telephone is required. The Work Hours Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND three years of library or clerical work experience in a progressively responsible capacity. The required work experience is met by service as a Library Assistant 2 or Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer. OR An Associate of Arts degree in Library Science AND one year of library or clerical work experience in a progressively responsible capacity.
