POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dedicated Speech Language Specialist who will provide effective treatments to patients by assessing their needs and applying appropriate therapies to enhance or restore their communication functions. You will be part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on community education and clinical training for students. Flexibility for cross-site coverage may be required.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Master's degree from an accredited Speech Language Pathology program.
• Current license for Speech Language Pathology in Connecticut.
• Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.

COMPETENCIES:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Proficient with Windows-based applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between various work sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct thorough evaluations of patients in line with departmental standards.
2. Tailor evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical history, establishing measurable, individualized goals.
3. Implement recognized therapeutic techniques to treat patients.
4. Apply physical agents and manual techniques to meet set therapeutic goals.
5. Use effective methods to support the normalization of speech and language activities.
6. Instruct patients and their families on home exercise programs and functional activities to encourage independence.
7. Determine when patients have achieved optimal therapeutic benefit and recommend discharge when suitable.
8. Document patient care in accordance with insurance guidelines and department policies.
9. Facilitate and maintain communication with other departments and referring physicians regarding patient care.
10. Accurately document and submit charges daily for services rendered.
11. Adhere to the professional code of ethics established by ASHA and demonstrate compliance through observation.
12. Maintain body mechanics and safety protocols during all duties to prevent injuries.
13. Supervise at least one student in an affiliated program annually.
14. Engage in continuing education to enhance your clinical skills and treatment methods.
15. Participate in at least one departmental or community educational in-service annually as evidenced by documentation.
