Join The Daily Beast as a Photo Editor (Part-Time) The Daily Beast is a leading digital news site known for its fearless and incisive reporting. We cover breaking news, politics, pop culture, and more with a distinctive voice that engages a dedicated audience.
About the Role The Daily Beast is seeking an innovative and highly skilled part-time Photo Editor to help curate the aesthetic of the site. The ideal candidate will have a background in both journalism and photo-editing/illustrating, have a keen eye for compelling and impactful visuals, and the ability to work quickly under tight deadlines. Hours: 25-30/week, Wednesday-Saturday. (~W-F: 3pm - 11pm EST & Sat: 10am - 6pm EST.) Open to remote candidates.
Key Responsibilities - (Photo)Illustrate: Create inventive and witty illustrations - whether using photo collages or original drawing - that capture the story and engage prospective readers
- Photo Research: Source, edit, and optimize images for daily stories and features across the site
- Rights Management: Obtain and ensure all images used on the site comply with copyright laws and licensing agreements, and secure permissions when necessary
- Quality Control: Maintain visual consistency and high standards by ensuring all are properly credited, captioned, and formatted
- Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the visuals department as well as editors, reporters, and the social media team to develop creative ways to tell stories
Qualifications - Minimum 2 years experience in photo editing in a digital media environment
- Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, with a proficiency in other Adobe Creative Cloud and supplemental photo-editing software
- Strong visual literacy and an eye for detail, composition, and color
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communications and ability to work collaboratively both in-office and remote
- Familiarity with current events, pop culture, news media, and politics
- Understanding of journalistic ethics and standards

Pay Range Salary The pay range for this position is $30 to $35/hour.
