SURGICAL & TRAUMA INTENSIVE CARE UNIT


Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center , we provide consultation services and comprehensive and continuous care to patients in need of life support or who require intensive monitoring and treatment due to serious illness or injury.


We offer multiple state-of-the-art intensive care units that provide the highest level of care. Our expert staff of physicians, nurses, and other specialists are specifically trained in critical care and how to treat critically ill patients with advanced non-invasive and invasive procedures


We are currently seeking Physician Assistants with critical care backgrounds for immediate weekend per diem opportunities in our Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

DUTIES:


As a member of our team, you will serve as a principal healthcare provider working with adult populations. Typical duties will include:

• Taking initial patient histories and performing physical examinations.
• Evaluating, diagnosing, developing, and managing treatment plans
• Ordering and interpreting lab tests
• Counseling patients
• Performing various medical procedures

• Central and arterial line placement
• Chest tube placement

• Conferring with attending physicians, residents, and other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of critical care experience
• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA) program, required.
• A licensed Physician Assistant by the New York State Department of Education is required.
• Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), is required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
• ATLS trained, preferred but not required.
