POSITION: Staff Assistant OFFICE: Executive Office of the Mayor (EOM) GRADE:  Excepted Service, Grade 3 SALARY: $66,562

This is an Excepted Service position. Selected candidate must be a District resident or establish residency within 180 days of hire.

Current District of Columbia residents will receive priority and advanced preference for screening and interviews.

  BACKGROUND The Bowser Administration seeks an energetic and qualified candidate to serve as the Staff Assistant to serve in the Executive Office of the Mayor (EOM) under the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor. The Deputy Chief of Staff serves as a principal advisor to the Mayor and oversees a number of mayoral offices, including the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services, Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments, Mayor's Office of Scheduling and Advance, and Mayor's Office of Community Affairs.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor and the Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff, this position serves as a liaison and confidential assistant, performing program, analytical and administrative assignments that address management, administrative, analytical, coordination, and communication matters on behalf of the Mayor.

  MAJOR DUTIES
  • Manage scheduling events and meetings for the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Mayor and other administration officials.
  • Work directly with senior administration leadership, including Directors of EOM offices to provide operational and logistical support.
  • Serve as the key person engaging with clients, residents and stakeholders answering incoming communications, including phones, email and visiting guests.
  • Provide administrative support such as, but not limited to, answering incoming phone calls and ordering office supplies.
  • Assist in preparing various reports for senior leadership.
  • Manage office documents for use in preparing correspondence, meetings, reports, and events.
  • Manage information systems and databases to track documents, processes, and appointments.
  • Provide administrative support to the team on special events and other projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed primarily in-person in an office setting. Times in the field are permitted when there is a related event.


  RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted or Executive Service either:
  1. be a District of Columbia resident at the time of appointment; or
  2. become a District resident within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment.

The law also requires that Excepted Service employees remain District residents during the duration of the individual’s appointment. Failure to remain a District resident for the duration of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
