\n 1. General job duties. Types of procedures required. \nUpholds the organizations' Mission, Values and Goals by adhering to the NHS Standards of Performance. \nEstablishes priorities based on patient needs and emergent unit activities.\nDemonstrates knowledge of the anatomical aspects of each surgical procedure, physiology and operative technique as it relates to first assisting. Considers the individual operative procedure, stage of operating and physical characteristics of the patient, type of tissue, hemostasis and wound closure as assigned. Demonstrates skills in tissue handling, utilizing retractors, surgical exposure, providing hemostasis, suturing and skin stapling. Performs efficiently in surgical emergencies and follows established protocols.\nThe First Assist Registered Nurse acting in a scrub role is responsible to prepare the operative field and anticipate the patient and surgeons’ needs in accordance with written standards of nursing care.\nHandles instruments and supplies correctly and ensures their proper functioning, using care with sharps on the Mayo stand and when passing to surgeon. All needles remain in the pack or secured on a needle holder or in the needle counter.\nAssists with sterile table and room preparation. Maintains a clean and orderly environment through proper cleansing of equipment and/or disposal of equipment and containment of contaminated materials, sharps and needles used in unit activities.\nIdentifies problems with care delivery methods and provides potential solutions to Administrative Director (in writing when appropriate).\n\n\n\n2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc\t\nOmnicell medication system. Cerner charting\n\n\n3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.\t\nCurrent five (5) years, acute care staff nurse experience in peri-operative nursing required.\nLicensed RN in DE or compact state, or eligible for licensure\nCertification in Operating Room Nursing (CNOR).\nMember of AORN.\nCompletion of approved RNFA Educational and Training Program based on the AORN Core Curriculum following proficiency in perioperative nursing practice both as a scrub and circulating nurse (minimum of five years of diversified OR experience).\nCertified or certification eligible as a RNFA (CRNFA) by the appropriate examining body-preferred.\nCPR or BLS required, ACLS preferred.\nMinimum one year OR staff nurse experience preferred.\n\n\n4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)\nRNFA license\n\n\n5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?) \n10hr shifts. On call 1 day per week and every 5th weekend\n\n\n6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)\nOR only\n\n\n7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.\n6 room OR\n\n
