Description (The YMCA is an Equal Opportunity Employer) Essential Functions: - Support a young person through an ongoing, one-on-one relationship, serve as a positive role model and friend by planning and mutually participating in activities together.
- Set goals and work together toward accomplishing them.
- Commit to a minimum of one day per week service to client(s), spending a minimum of four (4) hours per week mentoring a child
- Regular communication with the client(s)Attend initial orientation training and additional quarterly trainings.
- Attend mentor/client group events, mentor support groups and recognition events.

Qualifications: - Be at least 21 years per age & a high school graduate
- Have an interest and passion for working with youth.
- Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitmentsHave access to reliable transportation (automobile) maintain sufficient auto insurance and have a good driving record
- Be able to pass a criminal background check per standards set by State of Ohio SB 38.
- Must complete training matrix( provided) prior to being assigned a youth. Proof is required to show that all aspects of the training have been completed.Orientation Training (Prior to Employment
- Child Abuse Prevention (Prior to Match & annual refresher)
- YMCA of the USA online new employee training(within first 6 months/updated annually)
- CPR/First Aid (within first 12 months/update bi-annually)
- Other Trainings as mandated by YMCA & summit county Children's Services
Physical Demands: - Sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to do computer work for extended periods of time
- Indoor and outdoor work required
- Ability to participate in recreational activities with youth
Goals: - Establish a successful mentor/mentee relationship
- Increase the number of positive adults involved in the lives of our youth
- Establish community linkages to assist in their growth and development
- Decrease youth involvement in high risk negative activities
Performance Objectives: - Personal Development: Mentor will be willing to attend all mandatory trainings and will seek additional training opportunities to equip themselves to better performance of duties. Adhere to all YMCA policies and procedures as you are a reflection of our organization when you are out in the community.
- Youth Development: Mentor will establish and maintain positive interaction with assigned youth throughout the established timeline. Staff will provide community linkages for the successful transition of youth from the program.
- Reporting Requirements: Mentor will maintain up to date records on meetings with youth including goals set and attained. Mentor will submit monthly reports on all assigned youth on dates designated by the director.
- Branch Staff Support: Mentor will assist branch in support of the annual campaign and will attend all mandatory branch meetings as scheduled.
