Expressions of Interest: Legacy Memorial for ANZAC Square Brisbane

A call for expression of interests from artists is being sought for creation of a dedicated memorial in Anzac Square Brisbane, Queensland. The memorial will be a legacy memorial to commemorate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service men and women. On October 15, 2014 the Qld Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs the Hon. Elmes and Lord Mayor of Brisbane G. Quirk announced their support of a significant new memorial to be erected at Anzac Square Brisbane IN 2018. The committee for the memorial invites written proposals from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professional practicing artists from across Australia to design and build a memorial for Anzac Square Brisbane. The memorial will be installed on a plinth no more than 10 metres square and must represent the significant contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women in the armed service. The written proposal must address the following criteria:

Stage 1.

(1) A written Artist statement that discusses your concepts and ideas.

(2) A brief discussion on: Your capacity to deliver the project

(3) Artists availability to complete the project

(4) Experience of similar commissions

(5) A maximum of 6 images that demonstrate your ability to meet a high standard of excellence and evidence of recent public art works.

Stage 2.

The winning tender will be required to do a comprehensive proposal and a costing for the project construction of the winning (ATSIDMCQ) art piece.

The memorial concept must include symbolism and be representative of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. In addition it must represent the Australian Navy, Army and Air Force. The design will be a signature legacy memorial piece that reflects the artistic expression of our time, so that, in a hundred years people can see that the memorial truly represents our period and our culture.

Artists must send the above information to the following address:

Secretariat for ATSIDMCQ: Dr Dale Kerwin, School of Education, Mt Gravatt Campus, Griffith University, Messines Ridge Road, Mt Gravatt Qld 4122.

Applications must be submitted by the close of business (5pm) Friday 27th February 2015 to be considered by the committee.
