The UNSW attracted a who’s who of the art and design world when it marked the Official Opening of UNSW Art & Design campus and introduced the new UNSW Galleries recently. The launch was hosted by UNSW Chancellor David Gonski AC, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Fred Hilmer AO and UNSW Art & Design Dean Professor Ross Harley. The crowd of over 400 included many of the country's leading artists, designers, educators, cultural and business leaders. Among the highlights of the night was a video message from the Prime Minister Tony Abbott congratulating UNSW Art & Design on its relaunch and highlighting the contribution the faculty has made to the nation. The event also paid moving tribute to the late Nick Waterlow, curator, lecturer and Ivan Dougherty Gallery Director who inspired generations of artists, educators and curators.

The annual Premier’s Design Awards program culminated in a Presentation Ceremony held last week at Queen’s Hall, Parliament House in the heart of Melbourne.

The Australian Embassy in China invited a delegation of Australian design representatives to Beijing Design Week 2014. BJDW is a four year old citywide event, co-hosted by the Ministries of Science & Technology, Culture and Education, which was attended by 5 million visitors in 2013.

Every Australian state and territory is represented on the shortlist of the National Architecture Awards, as well as five international projects with Australian architects, it was announced on Friday. The Australian Institute of Architects’ national jury revealed its shortlist of 61 projects for the 2014 awards, progressing to the final stage of judging after winning respective state and territory prizes.
